EARN built and operates a linked repeater network on the 222 MHz amateur radio band. This system is built by and for EARN members. Use of the system by non-EARN members is at the discretion of the control operators.
The linked repeater network is listed as a closed system on most repeater listings by our request. At this time, non-members may use the system as long as they don’t throughly annoy the control operators. EARN does reserve use of the system for a club net which is held at 2000 Pacific Time every Thursday evening and the Emergency Communications Team (ECT) of the Southern California Edison Company holds an exercise every Tuesday morning at 0745. Additionally, the ECT holds several drills each year during which time the repeater is restricted to drill related traffic. In the event of an actual disaster, the ECT will likely take over the system for it’s own use. When the repeater network is being used by the ECT, there will be a Net Control Station who will ask non-ECT stations to refrain from using the system.
